MCA company check: verify a company by name or CIN

By the FundRaksha Trust team · Updated

Short answer

To check a company on MCA data, search it by name or by its 21-character CIN and read the master data: company status (Active, Strike Off, Dormant and so on), class (private, public or one person company), authorised and paid-up capital, industry, Registrar of Companies and date of incorporation. FundRaksha Trust's free company search shows this from the master data the Ministry of Corporate Affairs publishes on data.gov.in, with plain-language notes on what each field means.

How to run an MCA company check on FundRaksha

  1. Open the free company search.
  2. Type the company name, CIN or LLPIN. Results show the status and state.
  3. Open the company page to see its master data and what each field means.
  4. To look around a market, browse companies by state and ROC.
  5. If the company is your buyer, check it by GSTIN too in the FundRaksha Trust app. The company record does not show GST filing or payment behaviour.

Company pages are being added in batches, starting with active companies in Gujarat and Maharashtra. If a company is not listed yet, start with the free GST lookup.

What the company master data tells you

FieldWhat it meansWhat to look for
CINThe 21-character Corporate Identification Number from the Registrar of Companies. It encodes whether the company is listed, its industry code, state, year of incorporation, type and registration number.
StatusWhether the company is active, dormant, struck off or under another status.Do not give credit to a company that is struck off or being wound up.
ClassPrivate, public or one person company.Tells you the kind of entity you are contracting with.
Authorised and paid-up capitalThe capital the company may issue, and what shareholders have actually paid in.Very low paid-up capital is common for small companies; it is one input, not a verdict.
IndustryThe NIC 2008 industry from the activity code in the CIN, and the principal business activity. It should fit what the buyer says it does.
Date of incorporation and ROCHow long the company has existed and which Registrar it reports to.A very new company with a large first order deserves more questions.

Company pages show only company-level master data. They do not show directors, email addresses or phone numbers.

Company check vs GST check

Both are useful, and they answer different questions.

  • MCA company data covers only companies and LLPs. It confirms the legal entity exists and its status, class, capital and age.
  • GST records cover every GST-registered business, including proprietorships and partnership firms, and show whether the business files its returns.
  • Neither shows whether the buyer pays its suppliers on time. For that, look at court cases, reports from other suppliers and the owner's credit record in the buyer verification report.

Frequently asked questions

How can I check if a company is registered with MCA?

Search its name or CIN in MCA master data. FundRaksha's free company search shows the CIN, status, class, capital, industry, ROC and date of incorporation for published companies.

Is there an app to check MCA company details?

FundRaksha's company search works in any phone browser. The FundRaksha Trust app checks the same buyer by GSTIN and adds filing record, court cases and defaulter reports.

What does "Strike Off" mean in MCA status?

The company's name has been removed from the register of companies, so it can no longer carry on business as a company. Do not give it credit.

Where does FundRaksha's company data come from?

From the RoC-wise Company Master Data that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs publishes on data.gov.in under the Open Government Data licence. Each company page shows the date of the data it uses.

Can I see a company's directors on FundRaksha?

Not on the public company pages, which show only company-level master data. The paid GST + Financial report in the app identifies the proprietor, partners or directors for the credit check.
